UCLA Football Season Ticket Transfer Opportunity

In maintaining the integrity of the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program, season tickets for football can be transferred only with a one-time gift to UCLA Athletics of $25,000.

However, with the introduction of the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program, UCLA Athletics will provide UCLA Football Season Ticket Holders the special opportunity to transfer all or a portion of their season ticket locations to any individual(s) with no one-time donation required. All transfers through this opportunity must be completed by the 2016 UCLA Football Season Ticket renewal deadline.

Subsequent to the 2016 UCLA Football Season Ticket renewal deadline, the standard UCLA Football Season Ticket Transfer Policy will be in effect. Please contact the UCLA Athletics Development Office at 310-206-3302 for more information about the UCLA Football Season Ticket Transfer Policy.

2016 Renewal – Quick Guide

Continue as a season ticket holder, but release your current seat location(s) now in order to relocate to a lower per seat donation area in the Rose Bowl during an exclusive online relocation event in February of 2016. Your selection priority will be based on consecutive years of being a UCLA Football Season Ticket Holder.

Special Groups

Bruin Varsity Club

Bruin Varsity Club (BVC) members (former UCLA student-athletes) will continue to be offered the benefit of one (1) complimentary UCLA Football season ticket as a benefit of Bruin Varsity Club Membership at the $100 “Premier” level and above. The $100 BVC donation amount will be credited toward the Wooden Athletic Fund per seat donation requirements for UCLA Football Scholarship Seating.

In addition to season ticket benefits offered through Bruin Varsity Club Premier Membership, all former UCLA Letterwinners are eligible to receive complimentary admission for one (1) to UCLA Football home games at the Rose Bowl box office on the day of the game (subject to availability).

Example: A Bruin Varsity Club member purchases 4 seats in a $50 per seat Wooden Athletic Fund donation area. One season ticket is complimentary based upon a $100 donation for Bruin Varsity Club Premier Membership. The other 3 tickets must be purchased at regular price. The $100 donation for Bruin Varsity Club Premier Membership covers the per seat donation for 2 of the 4 seats and an additional donation of $100 must be made to the Wooden Athletic Fund to cover the total donation requirement of $200.

UCLA Faculty and Staff

Current, Emeriti and Retired UCLA Faculty and Staff:

Current, retired and emeriti UCLA Faculty and Staff who are UCLA Football season ticket holders and/or Wooden Athletic Fund members are eligible through the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program to purchase up to four (4) season tickets in the $50 per seat WAF donation areas without any required donation.

In addition to the exclusive Faculty/Staff opportunity in the $50 per seat WAF donation areas, UCLA Athletics will also match any Wooden Athletic Fund donation from current, retired and emeriti UCLA Faculty and Staff. This donation match may be applied to cover Wooden Athletic Fund per seat donation requirements for the purchase of up to four (4) seats in the UCLA Scholarship Seating area at the Rose Bowl. If a current, retired or emeriti UCLA Faculty or Staff member wishes to purchase more than four (4) season tickets in Scholarship Seating area, the UCLA Faculty or Staff member must donate the full amount of the WAF per seat requirement for the additional seat(s) above four.

Finally, all current, retired and emeriti members of the UCLA Faculty and Staff may purchase up to four (4) UCLA Football season tickets at a 20% discount off of the ticket price in all Rose Bowl seating areas (excludes Family Plan seating). This discount on up to four (4) season tickets is available for seats using the special donation opportunities listed above AND for seats without donation requirements.

In order to qualify to receive UCLA Faculty and Staff season ticket holder status, retired and emeriti UCLA Faculty and Staff members must present a valid Retiree or Emeriti Bruin Card at the UCLA Central Ticket Office.

Example: A current, retired or emeriti UCLA Faculty or Staff member may purchase 4 seats in a $500 per seat Wooden Athletic Fund donation area by making a donation of $1,000, which is then matched by UCLA Athletics for another $1,000 to meet the $2,000 donation requirement. In addition, the season ticket price of those 4 tickets would be reduced by 20% off the regular price.

UCLA Recent Alumni

UCLA Recent Alumni (defined as within 5 years of undergraduate degree completion or 3 years of graduate degree completion) may purchase up to four (4) UCLA Football Season Ticket at a 50% discount in all Rose Bowl seating areas (excludes Family Plan seating). UCLA Scholarship Seating Wooden Athletic Fund per seat donation requirements apply in full for UCLA Recent Alumni season tickets.

Family Plan

The UCLA Family Plan seating option will not be impacted by the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program and will continue to offer discounted ticket options for families of 3 or more in end zone area seating.

Student Seating

Through the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program there will be no change to UCLA’s robust student seating section, which reached record attendance levels in 2014.

HOW WILL THE UCLA SCHOLARSHIP SEATING PROGRAM AFFECT ME?

Based upon changes to the UCLA Football priority seating system over the past three decades, each UCLA Football season ticket account is unique and may be affected differently by the implementation of the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program in 2016. Beginning in 2016, all UCLA Football season ticket holders with seats in the priority seating areas outlined on the map at left must contribute annually to the Wooden Athletic Fund at the minimum per seat donation levels indicated.

Download Seating Map

IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER

  • All UCLA Football season ticket holders may renew their season ticket location(s) for the 2015 season by maintaining their same WAF donation as the 2014 season.
  • The 2016 UCLA Football season ticket renewal will offers options designed to fit the needs of all ticket holders. These include the option to retain/upgrade, relocate, transfer or release existing season ticket locations.
  • Wooden Athletic Fund per seat donation minimums for UCLA Football are not in addition to WAF donation amounts required for UCLA Men’s Basketball seating. A single WAF annual donation covers priority seating for both sports with the higher of the two per seat requirements determining the minimum gift amount.
  • UCLA Athletics’ staff is here to personally assist with any questions you may have about this process. See below for more information.

UCLA Athletics’ primary objective is to maintain its standing as the nation’s premier intercollegiate athletics program by continuing to offer all UCLA student-athletes the opportunity to succeed in the classroom, in competition and in the community. As the landscape of college athletics has continued to evolve over the last three decades, so too has the financial investment required to meet this objective.

IN AN EFFORT TO KEEP COSTS FOR SEASON TICKET HOLDERS DOWN OVER THE YEARS, UCLA ATHLETICS STANDS AS ONE OF THE ONLY MAJOR COLLEGE ATHLETIC PROGRAMS IN THE COUNTRY THAT DOES NOT COMMENSURATELY ALIGN FOOTBALL SEASON TICKET LOCATIONS AND DONOR GIVING LEVELS and, as a result, now risks being placed at a significant disadvantage to other nationally prominent football programs should the current system continue. While costs continue to rise, funding support from the University for UCLA Athletics – which includes no state dollars – has remained flat and now represents only 3% of the overall athletic revenue budget; leaving 97% as self-generated revenue.

In 1989, the first year UCLA instituted donor-based seating, UCLA Athletics’ entire budget was $19 million. In the 25 years since, UCLA Athletics’ revenue budget has grown to more than $90 million. However, over that same time period, Wooden Athletic Fund donation minimums for UCLA Football priority seating have only been adjusted once with an increase of approximately 13% in 2003.

WITH THE GOAL OF SUSTAINING UCLA ATHLETICS’ ABILITY TO COMPETE AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL WHILE BETTER MEETING THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENT-ATHLETES, THE UCLA SCHOLARSHIP SEATING PROGRAM COMES AS THE RESULT OF MORE THAN A YEAR OF EXTENSIVE RESEARCH and analysis that included data and survey collection from season seat holders, interviews with each Pac-12 university, a focus group, a national review of Power Five Conference institutions and a comprehensive look at schools recently implementing major football priority seating changes.

The UCLA Scholarship Seating Program will continue to keep UCLA Football and Men’s Basketball under one umbrella through a single tax-deductible annual gift to the Wooden Athletic Fund and AIMS TO CREATE EQUITY AMONGST DONORS WHILE ALSO GENERATING NEW, SUSTAINABLE REVENUE TO HELP KEEP PACE WITH THE RISING COSTS OF COLLEGIATE ATHLETICS. With hard dollar costs escalating across the board for scholarships/tuition, travel, facility upgrades, insurance premiums, recently allowed improved support of student-athlete nutritional wellness, a much-welcomed full cost of attendance allowance and the maintenance of nationally competitive coaching salaries, UCLA Athletics must work to stabilize its revenue levels for each of the aforementioned categories to continue as one of the nation’s elite programs.

YOUR INVESTMENT IN THE UCLA SCHOLARSHIP SEATING PROGRAM ENSURES THAT UCLA ATHLETICS AND OUR STUDENT-ATHLETES WILL CONTINUE PRODUCING MEMORABLE MOMENTS FOR GENERATIONS TO COME. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT IN HELPING MAINTAIN UCLA’S CHAMPIONSHIP LEGACY. GO BRUINS!

Message from Athletic Director
Dan Guerrero

No other institution of higher education has achieved, innovated or impacted the world more within its first 100 years. No athletic program in the country has reached 100 NCAA Championships sooner. The headlines. The moments in history. The iconic names that not only redefined how a sport is played, but who could play a sport. And it was all accomplished with those four magical letters worn across the chest.

As our centennial anniversary approaches, it is imperative that we maintain our excellence through even greater self-reliance. In doing so, we help ensure that our future is every bit as spectacular as our past. Without proactively moving forward, however, we risk falling behind.

In an effort to meet this challenge, beginning with the 2016 football season, UCLA Athletics will introduce the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program. This new seating program, a result of extensive comparative research and analysis from around the country, ultimately positions the athletic department to better meet the needs of our student-athletes and continues our ability to compete at the very highest level of collegiate athletics.

The enclosed information details this new program and how it will be implemented over the next two years.

It is important to note that no action is mandated until the 2016 season. Familiarizing yourself now with the various changes and key dates that are part of this plan is critical to maximizing your options when the time comes for this program to take effect. For that reason, we wanted to provide as much advance notice as possible in an effort to give you plenty of time to read and review the material included in this pamphlet and online.

Together, over the years, we have witnessed great moments happen here. Amazing moments. Groundbreaking moments. In the end, it all comes back to those four iconic letters. If you’re an alumnus, a fan, have a relative that went here or simply reside in Los Angeles, this is your university, and this is your team. You don’t just support UCLA, you are UCLA. Thank you for your support and for investing in your program.

Go Bruins!

Dan Guerrero
Director of Athletics

What is the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program?

The UCLA Scholarship Seating Program is a uniform per seat donation structure that creates equity amongst all donors. It formalizes access to seat locations for both UCLA Football and Men’s Basketball through a single tax-deductible annual gift to the Wooden Athletic Fund.

The Scholarship Seating Program will help enable UCLA Athletics to better meet the needs of our student-athletes now that we have more freedom due to NCAA deregulation. Ultimately, by being able to meet these needs, we can effectively secure our status as the nation’s premier athletic program for decades to come.

Why is UCLA Athletics implementing a Scholarship Seating Program?

Extensive research and analysis concluded that UCLA Athletics is one of the only major college athletic programs in the country that does not commensurately align football season ticket locations and donor giving levels due to grandfathering. As a result, UCLA now risks being placed at a significant disadvantage to other nationally prominent football programs should the current system continue.

In addition, creating equity amongst donors with a uniform per seat donation structure for both Football and Men’s Basketball, the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program also will generate new, sustainable revenue to help keep pace with the rising costs of collegiate athletics.

With hard dollar costs rising across the board for scholarships/tuition, travel, facility upgrades, insurance premiums, recently allowed improved support of student-athlete nutritional wellness, a much-welcomed even more recently allowed full cost of attendance allowance and the maintenance of nationally competitive coaching salaries, the need for consistent revenue has never been more vital. UCLA Athletics must work to stabilize its revenue levels for each of the aforementioned categories in order to continue as one of the nation’s elite programs.

How did the Athletic Department determine the Wooden Athletic Fund Football per seat donation requirements for the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program?

The Wooden Athletic Fund per seat donation requirements were determined following more than a year of research and analysis that included data and survey collection from season seat holders, interviews with each PAC-12 university, a focus group, a national review of Power Five Conference institutions and a comprehensive look at schools recently implementing major football priority seating changes. In addition, analysis focused on donation levels utilized for new UCLA Football season ticket sales over the last 10+ years, sales rates of season tickets at 2014 WAF donation levels, and market prices for UCLA Football single game tickets over the last three seasons.

What are my options to secure my seat location for the 2016 UCLA Football Season?

Options for 2016 UCLA Football Season Tickets

Season Ticket Renewal Due November 30, 2015

2016 Renewal – Quick Guide
  1. Retain/Upgrade

Renew your season ticket(s) in the current seat location and you will have the opportunity to upgrade your seats in our online Select-A-Seat event in April of 2016.
  2. Relocate

  3. Transfer

For 2016 only, due to the implementation of the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program, we are offering the unique opportunity to transfer any or all of your season tickets to another Bruin fan at no cost through November 30. We will contact you in the coming weeks to facilitate this transfer.
  4. Release

Choose to not renew and release this seat location. We hate to see you drop any of your season tickets as your support is imperative to our success. Seat locations released will be made available for other fans to select.
How does the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program affect my season ticket options for the 2015 Football season?

For the 2015 season, all current UCLA Football season ticket holders may renew their same seat location(s) by making the same Wooden Athletic Fund annual donation as they did for the 2014 season. Following the ticket renewal process, UCLA’s annual Select-a-Seat season ticket improvement event on May 2 - 3, 2015 will continue to allow all season ticket holders the opportunity to improve their seats. The new UCLA Football Scholarship Seating Program map [click here to view] will be applied for all new 2015 season ticket purchases and relocations.

How does the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program for Football compare to the rest of the PAC-12 Conference and the previous system?

Notably under the Scholarship Seating Program, UCLA’s highest per seat donation requirement will rank seventh in the conference (down from second); below USC, Stanford, Arizona State and Washington among others. Of the 86,679 seats in the Rose Bowl, 33,443 seat back locations will fall under this program. Of those locations, more than half will either see a decrease in the donation requirement (44.84 percent) or no change in the donation requirement at all (6.71 percent). More than 60 percent of the Rose Bowl is NOT priority seating, which also places UCLA in the middle of the Conference.

How is the revenue from Wooden Athletic Fund donations utilized by UCLA Athletics?

Tax deductible donations to the Wooden Athletic Fund go to support the 700-plus student-athletes on all 25 of UCLA’s intercollegiate athletic teams. Every gift has an impact on UCLA student-athletes’ ability to succeed in the classroom, in competition and in the community. This funding is directed to the people, places and programs that need it most, allowing UCLA Athletics to act quickly to enhance the student-athlete experience, retain coaches and seize opportunities.

What special benefits are being offered to long-time season ticket holders through this process?

In addition to the option to renew/upgrade their current seat location, season ticket holders will be offered access to a special loyalty-based relocation process that provides the option to renew season tickets but relocate to another area of the Rose Bowl. Priority for this exclusive process, which will take place in February, 2016, prior to the annual UCLA Select-a-Seat season ticket improvement process, will be based upon longevity as a UCLA Football season ticket holder. Seats must be relocated to an area with a lower per seat donation requirement than the previous location.

Priority amongst season ticket holders who relocate to new seats will be determined first by number of years as a UCLA Football season ticket holder and second by lifetime giving to UCLA Athletics.

What is the Wooden Athletic Fund?

The Wooden Athletic Fund is the general fund that supports UCLA Athletics. Tax deductible donations to the Wooden Athletic Fund go to support the student-athletes on all 25 of UCLA’s intercollegiate athletic teams and every gift has a positive impact on UCLA student-athletes ability to succeed in the classroom, in competition and in the community. This funding is directed to the people, places and programs that need it most, allowing UCLA Athletics to act quickly to enhance the student-athlete experience, retain coaches, and seize opportunities.

Will there be any special programs available to assist me with this process?

Yes. UCLA is committed to providing you with as much assistance as you may need to understand the options available to you for the 2016 UCLA Football seasons and to make the seating decision that best meets your needs and desires. Among the options available to you are:

  1. Contact your personal UCLA Football seating representative
  2. Email: uclascholarshipseating@athletics.ucla.edu
  3. Phone: 310-206-2508
  4. Online: UCLAScholarshipSeating.com
When does the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program go into effect for Football?

The UCLA Scholarship Seating per seat donation requirements will go into effect for all chair-back seating beginning with the 2016 season. These requirements will be applied, however, to all new seat purchases and seat relocations for the 2015 football season. Wooden Athletic Fund donations required for 2016 UCLA Football priority seating will be due by June 30, 2016.

Is the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program equivalent to a seat license?

No. The Wooden Athletic Fund per seat donations, outlined in the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program, consist of annual gift amounts that are 80 percent tax deductible. Each year season ticket holders will be offered the opportunity to renew their season tickets for the subsequent UCLA Football season. Season ticket prices and Wooden Athletic Fund per seat donations are subject to adjustment on an annual basis at the discretion of UCLA Athletics.

Can I transfer my tickets? How do I transfer my tickets?

A special one-time season ticket transfer option is available to all UCLA Football season ticket holders for their existing seat location(s) as part of the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program. UCLA Athletics will waive the standard gift requirement for seat transfers through the end of the 2016 season ticket renewal period. For more details, click here.

Why is the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program for Football expanding donor seating to include all chair back seating in the Rose Bowl?

The number of seats included in the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program has been expanded to include all chair back seating at the Rose Bowl (sections 1-H through 6-L and 15-H through 22-L) in order to provide an equitable donation model for all UCLA season ticket holders. UCLA Athletics determined, based upon the demand for UCLA Football season tickets in specific areas as well as local and national trends, that an expanded footprint for the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program would more equitably offer seats to each of our season ticket holders while incentivizing support for UCLA’s student-athletes. Such support provides our student-athletes and coaches with the resources necessary to maintain nationally elite intercollegiate athletics programs in each of UCLA’s 25 sports.

Following the implementation of the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program, nearly 60% of the stadium will remain designated for seating with no donation requirement. There will be no change to UCLA’s robust student seating section, which reached record attendance levels in 2014.

Are Wooden Athletic Fund per seat donation amounts for the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program tax deductible?

Yes. All gifts to the Wooden Athletic Fund are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law. Most gifts are deductible for 80% of the total gift amount, but for your exact deductibility we recommend consulting your tax advisor.

What are the benefits of becoming a Wooden Athletic Fund member?

In recognition of their financial support, Wooden Athletic Fund members are offered a wide variety of exclusive benefits including access to tickets, parking and hospitality at UCLA Athletics events. Benefits are offered at nine different levels of annual support ranging from $100 to $50,000+. A detailed WAF benefits chart can be found at www.WoodenAthleticFund.com.

I donate to other areas on the UCLA campus. Do those gifts count towards the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program per seat donation requirements?

No. Just as donations directed to other areas of UCLA’s campus provide critical resources to those areas, UCLA Athletics is a 97% self-funded enterprise. As such, revenue generated specifically through the Wooden Athletic Fund and UCLA Scholarship Seating Program is vital to UCLA Athletics’ continued success. To ensure that UCLA Athletics can continue to provide a first class-experience to our student-athletes and fans alike, gifts made for the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program must be directed to the Wooden Athletic Fund.

Are there sections in the Rose Bowl that do not require a UCLA Scholarship Seating Program donation?

Yes. The UCLA Scholarship Seating Program requires a per seat Wooden Athletic Fund donation only for chair back seats in sections 1-H through 6-L and 15-H through 22-L. All other seating in the Rose Bowl is available for purchase with no Wooden Athletic Fund donation required. Following the implementation of the UCLA Scholarship Seating Program, nearly 60% of the stadium will remain designated for seating with no donation requirement. There will be no change to UCLA’s robust student seating section, which reached record attendance levels in 2014.
